How to take your skin back when facing the challenges of acne
Unfortunately, acne, particularly teenage acne, is a problematic skin condition which is very common. Acne is caused when oil and dead skin cells build up and block hair follicles, causing unsightly pimples and bumps. Acne can scar the skin and cause a lot of emotional stress. If you are an acne sufferer, here are some tips for controlling your acne:
Don’t eat too many sweets and starchy foods
Sugary, starchy foods are not good for acne and they are not good for your health either. If you have acne, try and change your diet to include more fresh foods such as fruits and vegetables. The health benefits are well worth it!
Use clean materials when washing your face:
When you wash your face, make sure that you always use a clean wash cloth as bacteria can build up on dirty wash cloths which will make your acne worse. Also, don’t exfoliate your skin too often as it could lead to inflammation.
Don’t pick at your skin:
You have probably heard this one a million times, but it really is important not to pick at your skin. It may be tempting to squeeze those pimples but it is better to leave your skin alone, as picking at it can make acne look worse and it can cause scarring.
Don’t give up on a treatment too soon:
When using acne products, it is often tempting to just give up if you don’t see results right away. However, it is important to use acne treatments consistently in order to see results. Understand that good results take time and that it will all be worth it in the end. Follow the instructions given to you by your dermatologist carefully and acne prevention plans will have a positive effect.
Make sure that your cell phone is clean when using it:
This may seem like a strange one, but using a dirty cell phone can transfer bacteria to your skin, making acne worse. To prevent this from happening, wipe your cell phone down with alcohol daily to kill bacteria.
Be careful when using hair styling products:
When using hair styling products such as hair sprays, be careful not to spray them on your hairline. These products may make acne worse if they get near your skin, so it is a good idea to wipe down your face if you suspect the products have made contact with your forehead.
Don’t let acne rule your life:
Last but not least, it is important to not let your acne get you down and rule your life. We know that it may be very hard to act normal in social situations, particularly when you are a teenager, but you need to do your best to take control of your acne and still enjoy life! If you are really feeling down, talk to friends or family members who will be there to support you.
