Sun exposure is one of the leading factors contributing to the acceleration of skin ageing. In order to protect and prevent the skin from the damaging UVA/UVB rays one needs to consider the daily application of sun protection in combination with an active formulation preventing and repairing the skin from the inside out. Ageing is categorised according to the following causes;

• Intrinsic Ageing– this is largely linked to genetics, evidence suggests that the telomeres(protective ends of the DNA Strands) associated with each cell’s DNA will get slightly shorter with each new cell division until they shorten to a critical length leading to cellular senescence, a state of which the cell no longer functions to capacity. • Extrinsic Ageing– this is related to environmental and lifestyle factors, the biggest contributor being sun exposure to damaging UVA/UVB rays. Excessive exposure to UV radiation triggers the action of the enzymes Collagenase and Elastase to start actively breaking down Collagen and Elastin. This in turn leads to wrinkle formation and skin sagging. Other contributors can include diet, free radical exposure and smoking.

When choosing a sun protection product you should be sure to select a product that provides UVA and UVB High Protection.
