Exfoliation involves the removal of dead skin cells from the skin’s outermost layer and is performed to help promote healthy looking skin. Cell renewal is a natural process whereby new skin cells are formed, pushing dead skin cells to the surface of the skin. If these dead skin cells are not effectively removed, they build-up, causing dull-looking skin that is rough in texture. Exfoliation should therefore play an important role in any successful facial routine. Not only does exfoliation improve cellular renewal, it furthermore improves skin circulation and allows for more effective absorption of the DermaFix serums and moisturisers.
There are 3 different forms of exfoliation being;
Physical Exfoliation
Physical exfoliation of the skin involves the use of a granular scrub which, when applied to the skin, physically buffs or abrades the skin’s surface and thereby removes dead skin cell build-up.
The DermaFix Ultra XFoliant is a form of physical exfoliation using natural fine crystals that allow for safe and controllable removal of redundant corneocytes, helping to improve overall skin texture and tone. The skin is left feeling luxuriously soft and revitalised.
Chemical Exfoliation
This form of exfoliation includes the use of enzymes and acid-based products that have an exfoliating effect as they dissolve the protein bonds that exist between dead skin cells, allowing for dead skin cell removal.
DermaFix DermaPolish is a gentle daily exfoliator that removes dead skin cells and accelerates healthy cell turnover. It is a unique blend of organic enzyme-rich powders that micro-exfoliate and cleanse the skin, leaving it noticeably smoother and brighter. DermaFix DermaPolish is packed in dry form to maintain its effectiveness and freshness. Water activates the enzymes together with hydroxy acids to smooth, soften and brighten the skin.
The key ingredients used in DermaFix DermaPolish include the enzyme Papain, helping to remove dead skin cells, Liquorice to lighten and brighten the skin, and Colloidal Oatmeal helping to balance the pH of the skin while accelerating barrier repair.
DermaFix DermaBright contains a unique blend of active ingredients to produce visible skin brightening results within days of regular application. DermaFix DermaBright is a powerful 3-in-1 treatment that utilises Mandelic Acid in order to accelerate the biological process of peeling the skin, and is indicated for skincare concerns such as inflammatory non-cystic acne, hyperpigmentation and the rejuvenation of photo-aged skin.
When using enzymes and acid based products to soften and remove redundant dead skin cells, one might feel a slight tingling sensation as the skin responds to active ingredients such as Alpha and Beta-hydroxy acids as well as enzymes such as Papain which work to lighten and brighten the skin.
Mechanical Exfoliation
Mechanical exfoliation involves the use of a machine or device to exfoliate the skin. Commonly known mechanical exfoliators include Microdermabrasion and Laser treatments.
All forms of exfoliation are effective, however, individual preference along with skin concern will need to be considered when determining which exfoliation form is best suited to the improvement of the skin.
DermaFix Exfoliation recommendations for specific skin types:
- Oily/Problematic/Breakout prone skin
Less is more! Exfoliation of this skin type will help with removing the dead skin cells, eliminating the plug that causes sebaceous oil to build-up resulting in clogged pores or blackhead formation. Be cautious however, as the over-stimulation of the skin can trigger a breakout. DermaFix DermaPolish is recommended to gently exfoliate the skin 2-3 times a week. The nightly incorporation of the DermaFix DermaBright can be used to further assist in the prevention of breakouts.
- Dry/Dehydrated/Mature/ Ageing skin
As we age, skin becomes drier and exfoliation becomes necessary in order to increase cell renewal and remove the dry, damaged skin. This then allows the DermaFix serums and moisturisers to penetrate more efficiently into deeper layers of the skin, providing you with more effective results. DermaFix DermaPolish can be used daily to assist with the increase of healthy cell turnover.
- Sensitive/Rosacea /Allergy prone skin
Clients struggling to exfoliate their skin whilst combating sensitivity are able to use the DermaFix DermaPolish without aggravating the skin. It is recommended to exfoliate with DermaFix DermaPolish 2-3 times a week.
- Body Exfoliation
The body can tolerate a more abrasive form of exfoliation. The incorporation the DermaFix Ultra XFoliant combined with a DermaFix Cleanser provides an exfoliating wash helping to remove dead skin cells and brighten the body. It is recommended to apply DermaFix Skin ResQ after exfoliation to ensure the body is left nourished and moisturised.
- Normal/ Combination skin
DermaFix DermaPolish can be used on all skin types provided that there is no skincare concern.
