Introduction to Acne and the identification of acne related symptoms

Acne is a disease just like any other genetic disease. While there are no cures, there are workable treatments which will keep this skin care condition under control and restore balance to the skin during the active years of problematic flare-ups. Unfortunately, acne, particularly teenage acne, is a problematic skin condition which is very common. It is caused when oil and dead skin cells build up and block hair follicles, causing unsightly pimples and bumps, known as papules and pustules. This condition can scar the skin and cause emotional stress if not kept under control. The following factors can exacerbate this skin care condition;

  • Acnegenic fatty acids found in Make-up, some sunscreens and hair products
  • Diets rich in iodine have been linked to acne formation
  • Incorrect cleansing routines
  • Hormonal fluctuations
  • Stress
  • Hereditary

Tip: Ice the pimple. Start with a freshly washed face. Wrap an ice block in a clean wash cloth and apply directly to the pimple for no longer than a minute at a time, leaving at least 5-10minutes between applications. This technique helps to reduce swelling, thereby reducing the size and lifespan of the pimple. Never apply ice directly onto the skin and never ice a spot for more than 1 minute at a time.
